Dear music lovers,
The 22nd of February (according to F. Chopin's birth certificate), or the 1st of March 1810 (to quote the composer himself) is the date of birth of the greatest and most widely known Polish composer. On the 1st of April 1945, the Silesian Philharmonic was founded by decision of the Ministry of Art and Culture, and the Silesian Provincial Governor (although its initial name was the State Philharmonic in Katowice). Its first concert took place just two months later in the old Insurgents' Hall, which has been the Philharmonic's hall ever since. In July 2009, Bogdan Zdrojewski – the Minister of Culture and National Heritage – confirmed subsidising the modernisation and expansion of the Philharmonic's hall from the Eurepean Regional Development Fund with the financial support of the Silesian Province budget.
These dates have essentially influenced the musicians' proposals for the 65th jubilee season. They have also laid the foundation for our artistic programme for the 2009/2010 season. We sincerely hope that our artistic offer will prove to be on par with Your expectations.
We cordially invite both our regulars and those who have not yet visited our philharmonic, especially children.
